The very first post :)

The idea of creating this blog came to us after every day watching violin performances at the XIV International Tchaikovsky competition at http://pitch.paraclassics.com/.
We started thinking about different interpretation of classical pieces. Now that we are studying in Europe, having our russian backgroung behind, we can see the huge difference between european, russian and asian interpretation. If we look at the statistics of that competition, we will see that more 40% of all participants are Russians. But look at the results, that just have been announced. In the lists of those who will take part in a final round there are no more russians than koreans, for example. Now the question: how is it possible to compare asian interpretation, based on showing technical side of the piece, and russian, which is all about exploring emotional side, and at the same time displaying absolute virtuosity. And then there are American musicians, which sometimes are mixture of both, because of multicultural influences in that region. We talk about Western and Central european influence only now, just because if we look at the results again, in violin department there are no participants from that region. Is it an alarming situation? The most developed countries are least displayed at one of the most prestigious competition for young musicians in the world. Should it bring questions about the quality of education at the european conservatories? Of course it should. And then, the next question is what has caused decline of level of european schools, which have been the most advanced and now are represented as a minority? Of course it's a very wide, but interesting topic, and we hope to see many different opinions. Any disagreements are welcomed!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://classicalmusictoday.blogspot.com/2011/06/tchaikovsky-competition-very-first-post.html' title='Tchaikovsky competition.
